What would compel anyone to row across the Atlantic? Swells, exhaustion, hunger, sleepless nights, total isolation, and an unforgiving sea are a few of the obstacles between us and crossing an ocean. Determined, resolute, and eager to champion our causes, nothing will prevent us from making this a reality. On December 15, 2015 we will leave La Gomera for Antigua in an ocean double scull. Unsupported, carrying all our own food and water, we'll trek across the waves in the name of our long term plan of revitalizing Rice Crew and making rowing accessible for all. Though we aren't the first to do this, we are among a few (more people have made it to space and topped Mt. Everest) to challenge the Atlantic to fulfill our dreams.

Our Longterm Plan

Imagine just a few years from now as what was once a polluted, neglected bayou in the heart of one of Houston's poorest neighborhoods east of downtown is slowly transformed into a hub of community activism, social stewardship, and families beaming with hope. EaDo, or Houston's East Downtown area, is on the verge of a transformation and we want to be at the forefront of it. The Buffalo Bayou Rowing Club has the potential to do just this. The idea was championed over seven years ago and is just waiting the leadership and funding to kick it into motion. With Rice Crew at its core, the opportunity to teach low socioeconomic status 6th to 12th grade students, parents, and families how to row can be a key instrument in fighting the war on poverty, low academic achievement, crime, and even family disunity. Rowing should be accessible for all - check out our plan, share your thoughts with us, and join the cause.

How You Can Help

Your Time, Your Donations

Whether your can donate a little, a lot, offer your time, or simply give us a few words of encouragement, we appreciate it. The Talisker will cost us nearly $100,000 to make a reality.  This funding will in turn go to 1) creating the Buffalo Bayou Rowing Club (BBRC), 2) stabilizing Rice Crew as the keystone of BBRC, and 3) providing for our trek across the Atlantic to champion our cause and raise awareness. Can't help at the moment but want to know what happens next? Take a moment to visit our subscribe and sign up for our newsletter to receive updates on our progress. We understand that the power we see in rowing is abstract for many, so we urge you to contact us with your questions and challenge us on why we are so passionate about this.

Unable to donate? No problem! We need evangelists as well.  If you are able to help us with your time and love, please contact us via email to see how you can join the team now, in the coming months, and in the future with the boathouse on Buffalo Bayou.
